The idea of how to live one’s life is built over a period of time and perhaps, it is difficult to say that anyone can define life completely, even if one is on death-bed. Life of every individual is unique in his or her own way. The family into which one is born , the peer group at different stages of life and individual’s own experiences greatly shape one’s idea of life. As one grows in life, one develops one’s own idea of life. Most of these ideas start crystallizing by the time one reaches the stage of adulthood. Adults are considered to be mature because not only they have basic literacy but also an assumed understanding of how personal and professional relationships functions. But even after having expected level of maturity, adults do falter in different sphere of life. Why do people falter even when they have so many years of experience at their back?

The answer lies in tuning of a human mind. Human mind has inherent ability to generalize a unique scenario and to derive co-relation between un-related events. The prevalence of stereotypes and skeptical thought process is simply a result of this ability. However, it may not be correct to say that all humans hold stereotypes but at the same time it may be correct to say that almost all the humans do hold a viewpoint which determines their response to a particular situation. But what is important to understand is that how many times that response actually works and if it doesn’t then why it does not. The answer to this lies in the ability of an individual to hear other’s viewpoint without attaching any stereotype to person who is giving his viewpoint or the viewpoint itself. The ability to open up to new ideas irrespective of their source is critical for a better decision-making in life.

To be very true, professional problems are least complex of all the problems present in the world. It is the inter-personal problems at home or office which are the major problems that one can encounter. Of course, this is not to discount health problems which of course remain the top priority. While health problems and professional problems can be solved by investing in one’s health and improving one’s skillset, the inter-personal problem solving requires an ‘Open-mind’ attitude. A person with Open mind appreciates the diverse viewpoint of others. He also understands that past events may not necessarily be relevant for determining the future and the future may be influenced by certain factors which were never applicable in the past. A person with open mind accepts change and continuity gracefully and does not get disappointed if his own viewpoint doesn’t gets acceptance of others.

Lastly and importantly, a person with open mind never mixes intelligence with maturity. In fact, intelligence has no relationship with maturity. A mature person is one who appreciates the importance of time , emotions as well as rationality involved in a particular events where as the intelligent is not able to see beyond rationality. Further, a mature accepts the uncertain nature of life and tries to flow with the time whereas the ones who are stuck in past are never able to see the opportunities that a future beholds for them. A man is a complex bundle of uncountable thoughts and emotions and it is not worth a salt of any human to determine all the factors involved in an human action. However, a person with a fresh mind would give every action a chance to explain itself rather than explaining every situation with one’s own mind .

Most of the inter-personal success in both professional and inter-personal sphere is not dependent on how intelligent two individuals are but on how much open two individuals are to each other and how much they respect the co-existence of their parallel viewpoints. A man should not try to define life simply from his past experiences but should try to give a fresh chance to every moment that life offers. Every moment is different and needs to be treated differently. A person who develops such an attitude has emulated the maturity in its true sense and is not afraid of uncertainties in life. Rather, he is ready to learn and un-learn at the same moment so that blossom of future is un-affected by staleness of past.
